Squirrel Hill is Pittsburgh's largest residential neighborhood, stretching from Schenley Park to Frick Park with the Forbes and Murray business district at its center. The housing stock is mostly large brick and stone houses built between 1900 and 1940, with apartment buildings along Forbes, Murray and Shady, and a steady population of families, university staff and long-time residents.
Those houses have thick plaster walls, deep window trim, original hardwood and, often, a brick or stone fireplace in the living room. For TV mounting that means careful stud location behind lath, masonry anchors where the wall is brick, and heat-aware placement above fireplaces. For handyman work it means doors that have settled, radiator-side shelving, and picture rails and curtain rods that need solid fastening in old plaster.
Solaxay also covers the neighborhoods that border Squirrel Hill, including Greenfield, Point Breeze, Regent Square, Swisshelm Park, Oakland and the Wilkinsburg side of Frick Park.
